“the world is sound” is a 3-week full-time module dedicated to the exploration of the human voice
as medium for physical expression in contemporary performance. Each week a different voice artist will lead group research centered on the voice
and the body from three complementary angles.
Week 1 will approach the voice through a variety
of methodologies inspired by dance somatics and physical theatre practices, to land in the realm
of group improvisations. Week 2 will address improvising and playing with songs, text and movement and the relation between these elements. In week 3 voice and bodily gestures will be experienced and tested as semiotic polyvalent signs to be harnessed as performative material. In the mornings there will be warm-up classes led by Lichtenberg Method teacher Robert Liethoff, which will focus on fine-tuning listening and vocal emission.
The module is open to anyone interested in the human voice and its performative potential, and
is intented to create a space in which to meet, exchange, question and feed future learning. No previous experience with voice work is required.
